Nathan Ackroyd

, Dr. Nathan Ackroyd is an organic chemist with a focus on medicinal applications, such as new imaging agents for detecting cancer. Initially, Dr. Ackroyd did his undergraduate work at Brigham Young University, moved to Illinois for his PhD in Chemistry and has been teaching the department of Chemical and Biological Sciences at MRU since 2007.

Lloyd Ash

, Has been an instructor in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal since 2004. His recent research project tests the ability to benchmark aggregate trucking productivity and safety related operational factors using anonomyzed fleet satellite tracking records. Using the dataset of satellite tracking information developed in a prior study to sample Class 8 Heavy Truck travel speeds, Mr. Ash hopes to derive statistically meaningful measures for asset mileage and hourly utilization, including operating speeds, and operator hours of work and duty characteristics.

, Maureen's research has focused on Nursing Worklife Satisfaction Meaursement; Development of Obesity Surveillance tools for School Aged Children and Scope of Nursing Practice in Community Health. Current research interests include enablers and barriers to interdisciplinary practice.

Meagan Bowler

, Meagan Bowler's current research focus is on various pedagogical approaches to teaching information literacy. Meagan has been working at the Mount Royal library since 2002.

Andrea Bridge

, Andrea Bridge is exploring how children infected with HIV/AIDS and children orphaned due to HIV/AIDS in Fort Portal, Uganda perceive their experiences. Her research findings will be used to enhance the Child Health Nursing curriculum at the School of Nursing, and possibly with Child and Youth Studies and Social Work at Mount Royal.

Cathy Carter-Snell

, Dr. Cathy Carter-Snell has practiced as a nurse since 1977 in trauma units across the country (Emergency and Intensive Care). Her graduate degrees were completed in Alberta. She began teaching at Mount Royal in 1995, shifting her focus primarily to research and education in emergency and forensic nursing. Dr. Carter-Snell remains active as a sexual assault clinical nurse specialist in Emergency. Her research is focused on effective care for victims of violence, particularly sexual assault victims to prevent physical and psychological consequences.

Elaine Danelesko

, Elaine Danelesko is the Director of the Integrative Health Institute at MRU and a key facilitator of interdisciplinary research; including projects on student stress and employee wellness. Danelesko has background in adult education, and is dedicated to promoting research that includes faculty and students working together to inform a wider audience.

Trevor Day

, Dr. Trevor Day first developed his interest in respiration as a life guard and CPR instructor, and then later as an Emergency Medical Technician. Once he entered an undergraduate program in neuropsychology and started studying the effects of environmental stresses like hypoxia on the brain and behavior, he refined his focus to the neural control of breathing and respiratory chemosensitivity. Since completing his PhD at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine in respiratory neurobiology (2007), Dr. Day joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Sciences here at Mount Royal University where he teaches courses in basic and applied physiology.

, Falling in love with research will working for the CBC led Patti Derbyshire to transition her broadcasting background and expertise to academia. Earning a Masters in Conflict Management Analysis Organizational Behaviour, she has been teaching at MRU since 1997 and part of the Bissett School of Business faculty since 2002.

, Judith Gleeson is in the process of finishing her PhD study. This research project aims to clarify the current and emerging impact of health policy on public health nursing practice in England. Judith has been a Nursing instructor at Mount Royal since 2007.

Mark Humphries

, Inspired by stories of his great-grandfather in the First World War, and the Influenza of 1918, Mark Humphries studies Canadian, medical and military history. With his PhD from the University of Western Ontario, and MA and BA from Wilfrid Laurier University, Humphries has taught in the History department of MRU since 2008.

Sonya Jakubec

, A community mental health nurse in developing and developed countries for five years, Sonya Jakubec's experience spurred her return to academia in pursuit of mental health promotion and advocacy. Instructing in MRU's School of Nursing since 2003, she earned her Masters at the University of Victoria and is finishing a doctorate at the University of Calgary.

Lynne Lafave

, Dr. Lynne Lafave, BH.Ecol, PhD, (University of Manitoba) uses her knowledge of nutritional oncology to tackle everything from cancer to stress, and she is now taking nutrition online. Teaching in the Physical Education and Recreation Studies department at MRU since 2004, full time as of 2007, Dr. Lafave has developed a technologically-driven blended delivery, as well as fully online nutrition courses.

Mark Lafave

, Dr. Mark Lafave, BPE, MSc, PhD, has been chair of the MRU Athletic Department since 2003. Before which he held several positions at the college, dating back to Dr. Lafave's arrival at MRU in 1994 as an Instructor in the Physical Education department and head Athletic Therapist for Cougar Athletics. After completing his first two degrees at the University of Manitoba, Dr. Lafave came to Calgary and earned his PhD from the University of Calgary with an emphasis on performance-based examinations in athletic therapy.

David Legg

, Originally, Dr. David Legg wanted to be a gym teacher. But, that was before a masters degree in human kinetics from the University of Windsor, a PhD from the University of Alberta and a long-term involvement with the Canadian Paralympics Committee leading to a research emphasis on the Paralympics. Dr. Legg has been teaching in the Physical Education and Recreation Studies department since 1998.

Carolyn Pada

, Drawn to nursing from an early age, Carolyn Pada gained direct acceptance into the University of Alberta's nursing program following high school. After working for almost two decades in mental health--specializing in adolescents and families, and earning her master's degree--she became and Instructor in MRU's School of Nursing in 2007.

, Instructor in the Department of English since 1986. Served as Department Chair for 5 years and as President of the MRFA for 2 years. Teach English literature, writing, and film studies.

Joe Pavelka

, After receiving his Master's from the University of Alberta, Joseph Pavelka is now working towards his PhD in Geography from the University of Calgary. His research is focused on the evolution of nature-based tourism communities within an ecotourism context. Pavelka has been an instructor for the Ecotourism and Outdoor Leadership department at Mount Royal since 2000.

Tracy L. Powell

, Tracy Powell earned her Master's from the University of Calgary and is currently an Assistant Professor for the School of Nursing at Mount Royal. Over the next couple years, Tracy will perform a literature review of oncology courses as well as the current state of patient safety issues in acute care and community settings.

Paula Price

, The theme of Dr. Paula Price's research is focused on physiological responses to nursing interventions among critically ill patients. She aspires to promote excellence in cardiovascular critical care nursing through research, practice and education. Dr. Price has been an instructor with the Advanced Studies in Critical Care Nursing Program since 1989.

, Dr. Andrea Pritchard is a registered nurse who is interested in child health, family-centred care, and collaborative partnerships. Her doctoral research focused on how school-age children understand partnership roles in family-centered care (FCC) of their chronic illness.

, Presently, Pattie Pryma is a tenured faculty member with the School of Nursing. She is working on her PhD in Nursing with a focus on women/interpersonal violence and mental health. Pattie is currently engaged in research with women who have experienced adverse childhood events who have managed to achieve and sustain personal well being. Pattie is a faculty member of the Centre for Child Wellbeing and involved with the Forensic Research Network, both here at Mount Royal.

Elaine Schow

, Elaine Schow is a nursing instructor for the International Nurses Educated Nurses Program at Mount Royal. She is currently researching and exploring the experience of Internationally Educated Nurses (IEN) who have been required to take the Bridge to Canadian Nursing Program (BCN) at Mount Royal. She is interested in studying their insights into what educational and advising approaches would benefit the IEN organization.

Lisa Semple

, She joined the School of Nursing in 2009. Her interest is in child health and chronic illness. Questions for exploration relate to the impact of early diagnosis on families, parent education needs, and the supportive nursing actions important to families.

, Dr. Faith-Michael Emeka Uzoka is Faculty in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems, Mount Royal University, Canada. He obtained MBA (1995), MS (1998), and PhD (2003) in Computer Science with focus on Information Systems. He also conducted a two year post doctoral research in the University of Calgary (2004-2005). He is on the editorial/review board of the following journals/conferences: International Journal of Biomedical Engineering and Consumer Informatics, International Journal of Scientific Research in Education,Journal of Network and Computer Applications, Information Systems Conference. His research interests are Evaluation systems, Organizational Computing and impacts, Medical Informatics, and Technology Adoption and Innovation.

Gaye Warthe

, Dr. Gaye Warthe is currently working towards receiving her PhD in Social Work from the University of Calgary. She is anticipated to complete her dissertation titled "The Development of a Dating Violence Scale for Post Secondary Students" in 2010. Dr. Warthe has been an instructor for Social Work & Disability Studies at Mount Royal since 2001.

Khatija Westbrook

, A certified athletic therapist, Dr. Khatija Westbrook has not only instructed in the Advance Certificate of Therapy program since 2005, but is also the Head Therapist for Cougar Athletics. Beginning with a Masters and PhD from the University of Alberta, focusing on repetitive motion and chronic field hockey injuries; Dr. Westbrook is currently expanding her research into the study of preventative measures.

Stephanie Zettel

, Works as a RN in the ER and am also interested in nurses' perceptions of conscious sedation (or procedural sedation) in the ER. She has a rudimentary knowledge of research from her recent MN degree when she interviewed students on their learning experience during a senior surgical practicum. She has also developed a proposal for an innovative reflective tool used in clinical practicums to assess and evaluate a student's critical thinking skills and clinical decision making. Her main research interest is in how students learn both within the classroom and in clinical situations and how they translate this knowledge to make decisions regarding patient care within their own professional practice.
