Cliff Spyker

, After a twenty plus year career in public accounting and specifically assisting low-capital startups in southern Alberta, I finally saw the light. Joining MRU in 2006 I continue to work on my graduate studies in accounting and nonprofit performance metrics while teaching full-time. The combination of classroom and research opportunities has been an excellent step in my long term journey.

Jamal Nazari

, Jamal Nazari, holds a PhD in Accounting from the University of Calgary, a Master of Accounting from the University of Tehran, Iran, and a BA in Accounting from the Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran. Jamal's eight years of industry experience has included working as a CFO for an Investing and a Trading Company in UAE and Iran, as well as a Senior Finance Expert for Bahman Group (Mazda) in Iran. Jamal joined Mount Royal University in 2007. His teaching responsibilities are in the areas of financial and management accounting. He has taught introductory, intermediate, and advanced accounting courses at Mount Royal University, University of Calgary, and Sharif University in undergraduate and graduate level. Jamal research interests include managerial accounting, intellectual capital, and corporate social responsibility. He has conducted and intends to pursue research on the contemporary issues of accounting in national and international contexts. His studies on intellectual capital measurement and management have been selected as one of the best conference papers for two consecutive years at McMaster World Congress on Intellectual Capital. He has presented his papers at various conferences including Academy of Management, Canadian Academic Accounting Association, American Accounting Association, North American Congress on Social and Environmental Accounting Research, Asian-Pacific Conference on International Accounting Issues, and International Association for Business and Society. He has published the results of his studies in peer reviewed outlets such as Journal of Intellectual Capital, Journal of Business Ethics, Methodological Issues in Accounting Research, and Strategic Intellectual Capital in Multinational Organizations.

Rik Smistad

, Rikard Smistad has been an instructor in the Bissett School of Business at Mount Royal since 2007. His recent project investigates the stock market returns from a sample of Canadian public companies during the transition from Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles to International Accounting Standards.
